idle issues
i have a 91 ultra classic electra glide. its stock and sat around for about a year. i put a battery in it and had a real hard time getting it to start. after 2 days of messing with it i cant get it to idle without the choke pulled.
i found one intake gasket leaking so i replaced both. i've completely disassembled the carb and cleaned it. all ports are clear. it now runs and rides great as long as the choke is pulled. as soon as i push the choke in it stalls at idle. i can ride it at highway speeds with the choke off with no issues.
this has me banging my head. the mixture screw has no effect on it.
any ideas?
thanks, brad

Sounds like something in the carb. However, dont forget the filter on the petcock though.. My buddy had a similar concern and his was clogged pretty bad. I checked mine and it was nasty too... With this ethanol, you'll find all kinds of stuff loosening up and finding its way into places it shouldnt be..

its a factory harley carb. i had it off and completely apart. i was able to blow through all of the ports with carb cleaner and all jets are clear. everything is clean as far as i can tell. the petcock doesn't seem clogged, fuel flows freely when its open.

yes the idle screw is in about 1/2 way to bottoming out on its spring. adjusting it only makes a difference in rpm when the choke is pulled out. i think it acts like a vacume leak but i'm 99% sure there are none. i'm also 99% sure the carb is clean and clear. it so close to running excellant its driving me nuts.

Mixture adjustment on a CV carb ? I would still replace the low speed jet Look at the number on the LS jet head ( maybe 45 ? ) I've got bags of them I'll send you one NC As far as I know Bendix/Keihin carbs thru 1980 show mixture adj screws After 1981 the factory eliminated them unless one would drill out the alum plug cover over this internal adj screw confussed ? Is there an accelerator pump adjustment like on my S&S?
Deinately an air/fuel issue either leaking air, or something clogged. Since the richener screw doesn't affect it with the enrichener off, sounds like a definate lack of fuel.
Hows your float adjustment?
Tryed some dry gas/octane booster? with a full tank of 93/94 octane gas?
Does the idle change when bars are turned full left or full right? (Pinched cable)
+1 on replacing the fuel filter too.
Sorry if this is all no good, just me thinking of crap I've gone thru, and in some cases still going thru.
