I agree Jim. That is why I am going to leave it attached to my ac back plate and just place a tee in the line and let the extra piece hang down with a plug to catch the heavier oil with gravity. Then drain what little oil accumulates in the line.

I also keep the oil level about 1/2 way up the stick, but when I ride steady at 70 to 80 mph, like on the interstate, it still mists some oil.

The tee thing does seem to be the best solution. I may do that also now that I think about it. Most of my riding is done at 65 and below, with up to 80 maybe for a short time. Probably why I do not have any drips. Still, looks to me like the tee will be the best of both worlds. Very good idea.

Them metric bike brands have been doing it with the Tee fitting for years. You can use clear tubing for this and see whan it needs to be drained. You can get a nice cap for the end of the line from Honda or Kawasaki for a few cents.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply folks. Much appreciated. The solution that EVOrider offered seems to be a popular one here and makes sense.
Cheers, owe ya's a beer!

As I'm running an S&S Super E carb and backplate, I fitted a Drag Specialties chrome crossover (similar to the SE), between my SE heads. Then ran a 3/8" hose down between the engine and transmission, under the transmission and fitted a cleanable filter to the end of the hose. I also installed an S&S Reed valve breather while into the cam chest for a cam change. With those two mods, no more misting, carryover and the carb stays clean.

Good idea! catching oil mist in a Ugg boot, should be absorbant, large volume and last awhile when coming in pairs but damn it would be ugly.

What the h$ll, I vote
