Default Part number of canshaft seal?

I looked on my parts list and found part 83162-51 is the oil seal and I got one from Harley. But the one on the bike looks a little different, perhaps upgraded? Is there another part number for this seal?

I've attached a pic of the new one and the one that is installed...I am not sure if the detail can be seen in the pic but the one on the bike seems to have a wider metal area on the front with writing stamped into it.

You have the correct seal number. The installed seal looks like a Chicago Rawhide version and the new one looks to be manufactured by National Seal. They change suppliers ocassionaly...

Is there a secret for getting that thing out? I read in one book to drill a hole then put in a screw and use a vicegrip to rock it loose...but I've already drilled 3 holdes and still can't get it...before I really tear it up I thought I'd see if anybody knows an easier way...thanks

OK, I managed to get it removed....what I did was dug out the black plastic insert and spring then punched it out from the back using a large screwdriver tip and mallet...it came out pretty cleanly that way...now I just need to fight with getting the new one in.

hahaha..you guys are a riot!

Well, I got it inserted...not too bad....at first it kept wanting to go in at an angle...anyway, I used a 1 1/8 socket with a small extension to seat over the seal and tapped the extension with a mallet...and then it seated fine..one of the books I have said to do this and it worked...so I am happy

then again, a book said to drill a hole and use a screw to remove it but that plan really stunk.
