I ran an EV27 in my FLHS for several years (before making more serious changes). I don't recall any extra valvetrain noise, just smooth flowing torque. Fitting a new air filter housing added most noise, so may have crowded out any valvetrain!

I don't think you could go wrong with either one. I procrastinated for a couple of years and ended up going with the V-Thunder 3010 probably for all the wrong reasons. It was easy to order one without a gear, and I just wanted to be different. I didn't want anything too radical. I ended up doing this job more because of a lifter failure than a need to change cams.

I'm waiting on some stupid parts but hope to get my 'Dyna back together this weekend, or next weekend at the latest. I'm anxious to report on the "seat of the pants" dyno test.

I too ran a Andrews 27 in my FLSTN and did think it was a good cam in particular for stock heads but it made power just a leeetle too high in the power band for my riding style.
The valve train noise did bother me especially after a long run at (a bit) above highway speeds. IT seemed to be the noisiest at that level-- so much so that the first time I heard it I stopped to check the oil level-- it just had that sound...

I do like the Woods W6 I'm running now at around 9.7/1 comp ratio. The cam specs are close to the EV27 but in cam speak close specs can be somewhat distant performance wise.

Thanks for all the feedback, I'm exploring all the possibilities mentioned, will let you know what I decide. How long of a job is it to change out the cam? I have a lot of mechanical background and have been reading up on it but don't have a feel for the timeline. I'll change the bearing and probably go for adjustable pushrods since my top end is leak free. What about lifters? I've read that HDs aren't wonderful.

Runnig through ebay, I happened across this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AQ:MOTORS:1123

Is this a good deal? Seems a bit high, maybe but I haven't broke down costs of all the items individually. I have asked for the manufacturers of the bearing and the pushrods because that was unclear and also the material of the pushrods. It does say "make an offer" so I may try that.

96, the ev27 is around 120. to 135. by it's self and the torrington bearing was, if I remember correctly about 12. bucks. Don't know about the revtech pushrods, but the S&S and SE were about 120.
A lot cheaper than the kit. Do a search on the cam by it's self on the web and search for it, with free shipping then see if the have the pushrods too. You will save more money.

I've found the cam for 130-ish. Adjustable pushrods (EZ) for 120, lifters for 100 but I have not priced the bearing, shims and gaskets.... seems like it'll add up to 350 to 400. I may get away without lifters but the stock ones don't have a good rep from what I've read.

I bought my stuff by-the-piece recently...here is my tally:

Cam: New EV-13 from ebay $50 / free shipping = $50
Pushrods: SE adjustable chromoly from ebay $84 + tax/shipping = $93
Torrington Bearing: ebay incl tax/shipping = $11 (I also found I could get it locally for $12)
Gearcase gasket 25225-70c: HD = $4
Camshaft seal 83162-51: HD = $3
Crane Cams Cam Installation Tool DS-199098: phatperformance.com = $35
Borrowed blind bearing puller tool 27128 from Autozone: ($175 deposit refunded)
Bolt Cutters 36": Harbor Freight = $25

I inspected lifters and they still look pristine but have 55k on them. I decided to not replace them.

Total so far: $221

I admit it will be hard to find a new cam for $50 but you never know.

I am installing the pushrods today then buttoning it up. If you know what you are doing you could probably do it in 4-6 hours I am guessing...but I am just putzing along doing a couple hours a day since it is my first time. By the time I am done I am guessing about 12 hours spread over a week.

that isn't a bad deal as long as its a decent lifter, the stock hd lifters are poor at best and shoild be thrown out if your that far anyway. chad
