No, it's not all that hot. It's a mid-range cam that likes 3000+ RPM to make its peak power. I run that cam in Bertha. It's similar to an Andrews EV-27, but the valve timings are slightly different, and the ramps are considerably less aggressive - which is gentler on the valvetrain and quieter than the EV-27. The EVL-3000 (similar to an EV-13) will pull better at lower RPMs (it's a "bagger cam"), but will be "all in" sooner than the EVL-3010, especially on lighter bikes. The EVL-3010 pulls strong all the way to redline in my experience with Bertha. The EVL-3020 and higher are the "hotter" V-Thunder cams. I don't know if the EVL-3020 and higher are advertised as a bolt-in cams - but the EVL-3000 and 3010 definitely are - at least on newer Evos.

The EVL-3010 does have a .500" lift though, which is quite a bit more than the stock cam's .472" lift, and a bit more than the EV-27's .495" lift... so if you have flat pistons without valve notches in them, you should definitely clay your pistons to make sure the valves will clear the pistons at all times. If you're running thinner-than-stock head gaskets, this will lessen the valve-to-piston clearance even more, and might put you in the danger zone...

My EVO was built in Aug '83, looking at my original pistons they are notched on both sides. Them darn bastard years, you never know what your going to get.

Feel free to correct me.
I just took my 85 FXWG apart. The pistons are completely flat, no valve notches at all. It is completely factory original. I'm putting in an Andrews EV27 cam, so I just ordered a set of KB 9.5 pistons .05 over. I have the torrington cam bearing, harley B lifters, and screaming eagle adjustable push rods. I'm also replacing the original kehin butterfly carb with an S&S super E. I already have a screaming eagle ignition module. I think I'm going to leave the stock heads alone for now.

sorry to revive an old thread but I wanted to add a picture of the original flat top pistons from my evo.
