Question 91 Ultra Fork Oil Seal replacement.

Sorry guys..I had 2 questions to ask. To avoid confusion. and didnt want to list them on same thread.

I need to replace 1 -Oil Seal on the 91 Ultra.
Question (1) Would it be better to replace BOTH? at the same time.
(2) I notice that you can obtain a KIT ($55) for using when replacing
Oil Seals.
Anyone any experience re. replacing Seal/s and using ,or not using a kit.

Any info. greatly appreciated as I am about to do the wrenching myself next week. Bungo.

Replace both seals at the same time. You don't want to have to tear the front end down a second time once that other seal starts leaking, and it will.

I'm going to guess, but is it your left fork that's leaking? That's what happened to mine and after reading up here on the boards I changed mine on my 91 Ultra while leaving the forks on the bike. Turned out the left one also had a completely rusted retaining ring, while the right one was spotless. I believe because the way the bike is always leaning on the kick stand that the left side gets this way.

Hi Mike,Its the r/h side that is leaking. I have just bought a Complete Fork Overhaul Kit for $85.00. The Kit has everything in it to do an overhaul on BOTH Fork Legs.
I was thinking of buying the 2 Oil Seals only but on second thoughts I figured that if anything goes wrong (or breaks) ie. Retaining Rings etc. etc. at least I will have new parts ready. Thanks for response. Bungo.
