Thunderheader ??
OK... so I pulled the drag pipes off and changed the tranny fluid. Prolly didnt need it but the plug is a pain in the *** to get to... but i digress. On the used thunderheader there are no flanges to bolt to the heads. So...was gonna use the ones off the drag pipes. It looks like if you pry off the retaining ring the flange will slide over the collar at the head end of the pipe?? Never done pipes on a bike before so I wanted to check before I screw anything up. Also, I dont see any exhaust gasket other that the metal collar on the pipe? Either set. Is this correct? I'll go snap some pics here in a min cause this is sounding clear as mud to me.

pry that off and your flange will come off....then look in the head and you'll see a gasket,it's kinda a tight wound wire mesh type thing. They seat in there and keep you from having leaks.Their kinda hard to see and probably need a sharp tool, screw driver to get them out but there usually only good a time or 2.They're cheap...replace them!

Thanks Rocketman. Gaskets looked clean where they meet the pipe so I left em. Got her mounted up and just took her for a test spin. I'll bet the neighbors hate me! Shes not as loud as she was with the drags and still has a nice sound. I'll get a pic up tomorrow. The batteries in the digi died.

Thanks for all the help and patience w a fng new (old) Harley owner. I took it out this am before work. Seems like bigger ***** through the gear range and a little quieter( is that a word?) too boot. Tranny is shifting smoother w the amsoil and neutral is easier to find. With the reduced exhaust noise, I can really hear the dreaded "sewing machine" rocker noise clearly. Is this really normal? Sounds like a stroker that needs a valve adjustment really bad!

Glad ya like 'em, I have loved Thunderheaders since the 80's. Hope ya get lots of miles and smiles on that pipe, I do. More importantly whenever my neighbor throws a party and his low ridin' buddies come I just do some much needed "exhaust tuning" on the scoot and drown them out LOL
