Default Main tranny seal

I have about 1,000 miles on a new revtech6 tranny and the main seal is already leaking. It is the seal behind the pulley on the tranny side. Not the inner primary seal. Tranny lube is running down behind the pulley and running down the shock on my softail. The Jims sealed inner ugrade bearing worked great and I was wandering if there is an upgrade to the tranny seal.

Also wandering how hard it is to replace the tranny seals without dissasembling tranny.

The seal is easy. Getting to it not so much. Gotta pull the clutch and inner primary then pull the pulley. Once you get to the seal drill a small hole in the seal then install a screw less than 1/4 of an inch in then grab it with pliers and pull. Once you pull the pulley there should be a number on the seal. Call a local auto parts store (Napa) and order a seal. As far as an upgrade see if you can get a double lip seal. Good luck

What he said. Didn't know you could get the seals at Napa though. That is good to know. Might want to also buy two seals. If you are like me I will mess one up until I get it right.

And your Bad Boy rocks.

Yep Napa. My IP seal 8 dollars and my MS seal was 23 dollars. IPB was 34 dollars. There just bearings and seals and can be cross referenced or specked to fit. Good luck.

What is involved with that quad seal and does it usually need replacing also?

Wander what caused it to start leaking so fast?

Good to know there is a double lip seal. That may help keep it from leaking so fast next time.

I don't mind pulling the inner and outer as much as I hate pulling the oil tank and battery so I can get the starter bolts out.

Try a long long 1/4 extension with a bit on the end to get the allens out. Works for me. When my seal went bad fast it was a bad main shaft bearing.

if the drive pulley isn't tight on the main gear spacer it will cause the trans. to leak too.

Keyword in your post was RevTech or more commonly known as cheap *** junk not worth throwing away 90% of the time , haven't seen a major hard part from them yet worth the box it was shipped in .

Check the tranny output shaft for play with a dial indicator, this will tell you if the main bearing is within tolerance.
