Just curious. I've had good luck with early Evo engines. I had a stock 1985 FXSB (Lowrider) from 1991-2001, and currently ride a 1985 FXRS with a factory rebuilt motor. No engine or tranny problems. I'm just looking for your experiences..
84-85 EVOs had shovel bottom-ends. 86-89? they went cheapo on the cranks and cases and had tons of problems. If your motor was factory rebuilt... it was brought up to the latest specs, so technically it is no longer an early EVO. Luv my 84
Wow, Toms, now u got me worried! My 86 has never been apart except for replacing base gaskets and its at 80 thou or so now. Course it is early 86 10/85 to be exact. Wasnt planning on ever working on this thing, now maybe I will have to. lol
85 FXRT sold around 99 still runnin strong. 86 FXWG 22,000 purchased last year just replaced intake, carb, air filter, throttle and clutch cables, exhaust, ignition, pipes, pads. The upgrade to a CV carb woke this bike up.
85 FLT(custom). Love the bike. Would not trade it in for one of thoose FI things even if I won the lottery. Runs strong, sounds great and no gov. regulated crap to f-up all the time. And imagine I can work on her with out a computer.
1985 FXEF, Factory rebuilt engine after one of the HD mechanics blew the motor.
Just spent a week looking for a headlight, have one coming but not sure if it is right yet.
Also replaced the electrical system complete with Compufire system.(Rotor, Stator, regulator).
