Default Different oil filters on an Evo

I was wonder if any one uses a Napa 1516 or a Fram 3600 oil filter on their Harley Evo ? What oil filter do you run on your Evo ?

P/N's 63796-77A (Chrome) and 63805-80A (Black) for the EVO...The prices at the dealership are competetive with the competition all day long....An Indy shop gave me the wrong oil filter years ago and I get the filters at the dealership.

I go with WIX over fram because wix has better filter media & traps more particulate than fram.
Hatch.

I go to the dealer for my filters. The reason is not all filters are the same . Some have anti back flow valves and different micron ratings. And you can't trust everything you read on the net as being accurate. Here's an example .http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterXRef.html This site has cross reference filter brands, but says to use the same filters for Evos and twin cams. If there wasn't any difference, I'm sure Harley would say use any filter that happens to screw on the motor. Then have different micron ratings for the twin cam then the Evo and I don't believe the Evo filter needs an anti back flow valve in it, due to the way the the oil returns to the tank on a Evo. The twin cams oil is filtered before it enters the motor. The twin cam filter also has a smaller micron filtering rating, I believe is due to catch the pieces of shedding of plastic from the shoe tensioners, and not plug the small holes in the piston oilers.,

If your bored an want to read to death any an all oil an filter info check out: www.bobistheoilguy.com They have cut open an inspected all types of filters an say the hd dealership filters are a decent filter.

Personally I use the hd brand an the inexpensive walmart supertech oil an change it more frequently.

I've seen alot of filters cut open posted on that site. I wasn't impressed with the super tech filter tho. It looked really cheaply made. Like oil you rarely hear of a filter causing a motor problem, but for peace of mind I use Harley's filter. It takes one more thing to worry about out of the equation.,,

Exactly....

I generally use 3 filters a year, the difference between useing an aftermarket or an OEM HD would be about 10 bucks total...not a lifestyle changing amount for me. Now if there was a better filter I'd look into using it.

Don't use car filters! Cost me an Ironhead motor that did.
