Default 5 speed trany help needed

ok, here is the scoop. I have been having an issue with my 1993 Fatboy 5 speed trany for almost a year now.

The last time i was on it, the trany was making an wierd noise, almost like a tick, but louderd and even when the bike was off and i was pushing it, it would make this click or knock noise.

I took the trany top cover off and took out the shifter drum and forks, thinking maybe i have a bent fork. I measured all the forks, drum slots and nothing was that off, so i orderd a kit to replace all the forks, shift drum, and paw assembley just to be safe.

prior to ordering the kit, i discovered that the fork for 3-5 (closest to the primary case) was not pusing the dog on the gear all the way in to engage it. This was causing the noise. also, when i took out the shifter drum the noise went away?

I got the kit in today and put it in, but now for some reason the trany wont shift at all. Im not sure why this would happen. it is the right kit ( i doubled checked it) so what could be causing the issue?

when the trany was all together the fork for 3-5 would move up and down, due to the dog not engaugeing correctley.

Can someone rain some light on my problem here, im going nuts trying to figure this out?

Did you measure the 3rd gear adjustment? The service manual has the specs and shows you where to measure with feeler gauges.

What do you have for end play on the shifter drum. Perhaps it's too tight.

You must now bow to the great one, The elders are wise in the ways of such things!

Where did you get the kit? Catalog or Ebay? Sometimes cheaper ain't better, I have run into a lot of ebay "deals" where it looks good but the parts were made by people that can't read a ruler. J/S.

I was just asking, because my buddy at work bought a top end kit off ebay for half the price for his shovel. When it came in the rings were too small and half the gaskets were wrong (883 Sportster parts were mixed in with his 1200 BT stuff). He couldn't get a return/refund. So I just thought I'd ask.
