Default Mikuni HSR-42 or S&S carb upgrade

I just had cams installed in my 2001 FLHTC (Andrews 26a) and I want to upgrade the CV carb with either the HSR 42 or the S&S carb. I have experience with the HSR 42 but no experience with the S&S carb. Does anyone here have any recommendations?

Thanks

Either one will lower your MPG. The CVO carb is very good but in my opinion it is picky. The one I had on my bike had to be adjusted every couple thousand feet of elevation.

That said I put a S&S Super E on mine and have been very happy with it. It was easy to set up and I haven't had to mess with it since.

The stock CV flows enough air to get you around 100 HP. If your engine is close to that then you may gain some with a 42 Mikuni, if not then you can spend your money better elsewhere.

I'd just throw some larger jets in the cv and run it myself. You also have to take into consideration cable changes with carb swaps. Check out what size jets are in it and go from there. Do you already have a high flow a\c?

You could also have the CV rebuild by Killer MC for under half the cost of a new S&S. That is my plan anyway.

The CV is a great carb for street bikes - I'd suggest that you'd be $$ ahead to tune yours for the engine's needs.

Unhappy

Thanks for the suggestings. I have an SE breather and Cobra True dual exhuast and my CV has been jetted. Just had my cam chain tensioners replaced and an Andrews 26a cam installed. My wrench said it runs great and I think I will just leave it as it is. I haven't been able to ride it because I broke my foot a day before I got my bike back from the cam install.
