Starter motor not engaging.
Well, I guess I have another problem. Wanted to take a short ride tonight and the starter spins but is not engaging the engine.
Manual says jackshaft or ring gear.
Battery is showing 12.8 volts without bike running.
Geeze........Where should I start?

If it were me, I'd try to jump start it from a non running automobile.

Starter drive (clutch) is a common replacement item. It's a relatively EZ fix. If it spins and doesn't engage and the battery is showing 12.8 volts, you've pretty much already diagnosed it.

Do the clutches go out slowly or all at once or both? I've been having intermittent starter problems for a while.

If you have a stock starter I would go and buy the clutch from the dealer.
