Default 1997 road king spitting and sputtering

i got a 97 road king with the 80cu in evo. long straight pipes and a hypercharger. just rebuilt the carb and changed the spark plugs. however now when i load up the carb on take off or even at mid range its almost like it coughs or spits. also when gearing down to stop it pops like crazy. just wondering what i can do with the fuel mixture to solve this problem. thanks for any help.

I think you need to provide us with more information to assist. What if any engine mods have you done?

Which slow jet? Main jet? Slide? Slide drilled? Any washers "under" the needle? How many turns out on the mixture screw?

Are you positive the carb is attached properly to the manifold? Did you inspect the carb-to-manifold gasket for any tears? Did you inspect the manifold-to-cylinder gaskets for any tears?

One thing you can do to see if there is an air leak is run the engine and spray some WD-40 at the gaskets and see if there is a change in how the engine runs.

Just went through this recently for my first time and relaying what I learned and was advised to check. Good luck.

If the bike was running fine before you fixed it then the problem is in what ever you fixed. (had this happen to me more than once)

Just go back through your carb as stated above.

Nobody has mentioned spark plug gap... What a shame lol
Play with the adjustments a little on the carb to see if anything has changed there. As mentioned above, check for intake leaks but I'd use spay ether or starting fluid. If the carb checks out fine it could be the battery (as a long shot) but not providing enough ingnition. Good luck

Also, what jets are you running? (once again)
