I should have looked through it to realize it was the FXR issue before I bought it. Maybe you can get some ideas out of it.

You say the bike is titled as salvage so i would first check out the front end and frame for possible bent stuff !!! I seriously advise you to do this before you worry about the cosmetics.
Forks are trashed. Replaced tubes and internals all for under $200. Was looking for replacement 35mm showas but everyone wanted too much. Went for a few pairs on ebay but was quickly out bid. I felt rebuilding what i had already was the way to go. Going to PC lower tubes and clamps.....new bearings. PC mags with new bearings/seals. Bike was real clean and less than 10 K miles. Didnt have $ to go out and buy one so when the trade presented itself i jumped on it. Hadnt used sled in2 yrs. bought them new 10 yrs ago and they got plenty of use. I had put 9000 miles on mine........it was time.

I have sold a bunch of take offs from bike to raise $350 for the cause.
I will post pics when i go back to using my laptop.......wifes ipad is nice to use while sitting on couch

I think i will try the JB weld since i have some in garage

Thanks guys

Stay tuned for more questions and pics

Stevo -

I've got an '84 FXRT, and in my humble opinion, the 35MM fork legs flex too much for my liking. I'm looking for a complete 39MM front end from a Sportster or Dyna. The stem/trees are a bolt in, and w/some decent fork spring and a fork brace, it will greatly stiffen my bike's front end.
