Default Carbed Tank parts info?

I recently located a 97 carberated fuel tank (same Mystic Green as my 97), for my Road King EFI to carb conversion. I was looking at the microfiche at Ronnie's HD site - and it looks as if the instrument panel etc. from my 97 EFI tank, can be swapped over to the 97 carberated tank (sans the EFI tank plate of course). Am I correct here, or is there any other parts I need?

The critical part is the basic chrome instrument panel, which is the same for both tanks. I reckon you should be fine - and snap up that tank asap!

Graham,
I bought the tank : ) It was brand new old stock oem - meaning it wasn't cheap! I figure with the sale of my old tank, I can live with the price($525 US). HD want's like $1,700 for the Mystic Green carbed tank. I guess it's a rare color? It will be nice ditching the morelli EFI : ) That won't happen til Fall, as I am remodeling my parents home at the moment. They are both in their mid 80's and on a fixed income - so they get free labor out of me ; )

When I was looking for 5 gallon tanks I went to the dealer to find out if they made one for my bike. They did (for the Nostalgia) but it was cost prohibitive. They wanted $900 for the right tank and $1200 for the left tank. I said no thanks.

Good luck with your conversion.

Instrament panel will go right on it, the carb tank has the fuel pump access hole blocked off and 1 fuel petcock. Will have $300 to $400 in getting a tank painted so ahead of ballgame and won't have to grind out the EFI fuel lines

I think $525 is a great price for new HD (not aftermarket copies) painted tanks. You may get over half that back if you catch the right buyer on ebay.

Well done! While the cost sounds a bit high, the paintwork alone is worth that much! The alternative is to buy a much cheaper tank but repaint it, which I did recently for my old Glide. As for the factory cost, that $1,700 gives a measure of the effort the factory puts into their paintwork and finishing. You got a bargain! I don't think there is any 'rare' colour, although some will be more common.

I hope you have the same good luck with your parents' home!

Graham,
I think I did pretty well price wise on the tank - as you mentioned when you factor in having one painted. I hope to get a least $200 for my EFI tank, which is fairly blemish free. I got the tank off of Ebay, so it is in route via UPS. I hope it arrives intact? With my luck, it will look like King Kong sat on it : ( Anyway; thanks for the input, and the words of encouragement on my home improvement endeavors 1997bagger and all; thanks again for the input! Nothing like the Evo forum
