Default 150mm tire on an Evo, not as easy as you'd think

So I'm trying to install a 150mm tire on a '99 nightrain and I haven't found very much good information. I have the 1 1/8" 135 tooth belt and a 40306 70t rear pulley but with these installed the pulley hits the swing arm when the axle nut is tightened. Ok no big deal, I had a 3/16ths axle spacer made to keep the swing arm off the pulley. Now the problem I noticed is that the pulley mounting flange is offset .3" more than the stock pulley which has the belt hard against the inside of the rear pulley.

So now I need to machine material off the pulley flange but the question is how much?

If I machine the .3" the belt might touch the tire. I think if I remove 1/8" it'll be enough and not rub the tire and there's a bit of a buffer since the front pulley is 1.5" wide and the rear pulley is 1 1/8".

What's confusing is that I've never read about people machining that pulley for it to work. Some people use a 40295 pulley but both of those pulleys are suppose to be off 00-05 softails so I don't know what the difference would be. I found one guy say the 40295 is a 73t pulley but the auctions on ebay say they're 70t.

Does anyone know what I should machine of that pulley and what's different with the 40295 pulley?

Use the 1" belt and pulley from a late Twin Cam, save you heaps of grief...

I used a 1" pulley on a deuce wheel wheel with a thin pulley adapter/spacer to take care of the difference in the pulley center an wheel's lip for it to ride on. I got a 170 wide tire with this set up on my 94.

Nice ... I would love that set-up for my '96 Springer. Do you recall the axel & bearing sizes that you used, and what year Deuce wheel?

A 140 tire would be way easier, that's what I ran on my evo fat boy and dads springer, also had 2 buddies run 150 with chain drive.

I believe it's a 2000 deuce wheel, I used that bearing that were in it an the axle that was in my 94. I don't know what spacers I used. I had befriended a mechanic at the local indy shop an he gave me a 5 gal bucket of spacers to take home an use. I just kept trying different ones till it fit right. clearance is tight between the pulley an swing arm. I have to put the wheel in without the rotor on it, line up the caliber bracket an slide the axle in then slip the rotor in, finish pushing the axle through an bolt the rotor on. I even used the stock fender just flipped the bolts.

Got a chain on my 98....lots of room for a much bigger tire, just not sure I can squeeze a 150 on a 16x3 stock mag (and unless I convert the whole swing arm setup, don't wanna change axle and bearing sizes just for rubber)

What wheels were your buddies running?

Thanks. One more question. Do you know what year and model bike the 1" pulley is from?

Sorry run1, I got it used from pinwall cycle on ebay. I drove down an picked it up, it was about 1:15 away. I got the adapter off ebay too.

I've seen some 3.5" rear spoke wheels for 150 wide tires. They look on them than on the 3" wide.
