Wet sump reduction
Wet sumping is caused by too much oil sitting in thecrankcase when the engine is started. Theexcess oil is forced out of the crankcase via the breather tube and creates abig mess. The oil in the crankcase has two sources; the leftover from when theengine was shut off and the leakage past the oil check valve. The leakage is afunction of how long the engine sits without running and how well the checkvalve is working. You can reduce theremnant oil by allowing the engine to idle for a couple of minutes before turningit off. This allows the scavenge portion of the oil pump to evacuate as muchoil as possible. On my bike this can raise the level in the oil bag by aquarter inch or more. If you have a bottom breather you probably also have amanual fuel petcock. I close the petcock while the engine is running to liftthe fuel valve off of its seat while the bike is sitting.

Get a welding rod and weld it to the end of a good check valve and gently lap the seat area where the check ball rests. Won't take much....Clean the area real good and install a new check ball. At the same time you might want to install a new spring.
