My Formal Evo Introduction
I posted over in the Softail forum, but Prot pointed me in the direction of this forum. I just picked up a 1987 Softail Custom, and I'm excited to join the ranks of the Evo riders. It's got about 21k miles on it, almost all original, with the exception of forwards controls and bars, and it's been sitting for nearly 10 years.
I plan on spending the winter getting it roadworthy again. I've already rebuilt the carb and have it running, but this winter I'd like to go through it, replacing the tires, lubing cables, bleeding brakes etc. I'd also like to throw a heritage style rear fender on it, some different bars, remove the forward controls, add floor boards, and tweak the suspension. Any other suggestions to add to my winter to do list? Thanks in advance!

I'm in the process of going through my '96. Do the engine/tranny/primary fluids. Clean the lifter valley screen (good luck getting the plug out, buy the right tool). Check primary chain tension. I just took apart the steering stem to check on bearings and regrease (see pic below). I'm trying to pull the swingarm, but fighting with a seized pivot right now. Oh, grease wheel bearings with new seals, and change out the fork oil. That should get everything up to snuff.
