Default starter will not disengage, 1986 flhtc

Planned a great ride today, looks like that won't happen. Its a bit cold here in Virginia and it cranked excessively and I tried to keep starting it until the starter didn't disengage even when I cut the bike off . I tried to start it with my truck running (Dumba**) and it was much better but it didn't seem to charge and died. Could a severely discharged battery cause the charging issue or did I screw up bad.... . The battery is charging now and hopefully all will be well.

Weak battery and motor not starting, the drive will hang up at times. Check battery connections.

cheap taiwanese solenoids often give problems

all of my Harleys had had problems with solenoids locking on

have fitted earth cut out switches on all bikes, makes life a lot simpler and less stressfull when things go wrong

Philippine solenoid took a dump, kept the old one, cleaned the contacts and lubricated the plunger. Works and charges fine just ruined my day.
