Default Adjusted the clutch today... neutral is hard to find now

My clutch was starting to slip I noticed so I checked to see how to fix it. Turned out to be pretty simple, but for some reason neutral is now hard to find did I do something wrong?

My process:
Losen the clutch adjustment cable
Open the derby cover with the bike flat (off the jiffy stand)
Loosen the lock nut
Turn the adjustment bolt in clockwise until finger tight
Then turn it out 3/4 of a turn
Tighten the lock nut
New gasket and put the derby cover back on
Take the slack out of the clutch cable
Pump the lever 3 times
Set the adjustment of the cable to 1/8 inch off the clutch perch
Tight the lock nut.

Clutch is great now... but the neutral thing was annoying me. Seemed to be better when I rode this evening though who knows.

Try it 1/4 turn off and make sure you crank it fully in and then out again before finding the tight point and then backing off.

Although, if you didn't crank it fully in/out first, you can probably go with the spec.

Also, make sure your primary oil level is correct, and your chain tension is also correct.

If all else fails, add a quart of SeaFoam to the primary....

NO... DON'T DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Finger tight neevr works on my bike for the initial screwing in of the adjuster screw. I use an allen key and wind it in tight while at the same time grabbing the clutch release arm on top of the tranny to make sure that i have all the slack out of the entire chain.

then i back it off 1/4 to a 1/2 a turn. 3/4 always takes it too far for my bike.

When you turn the adjuster screw in and bottomed, pull the clutch lever a few times to set the ***** in ramps, then back off and bottom again, now back out 1/2 turn, watch and make sure the screw does not move when tightening the jam nut.

Good news. Rode to work today and the neutral was perfect once again. I rode 100 miles yesterday and it was getting better towards the end of the ride.... so maybe it just needed a little time. Who knows, but happy it's working. Thanks for the advice and if it goes back to being testy I will adjust as recommended.

Sounds as if all is well, but on my ole lady I adjust out most of the cable slack, to improve neutral finding.

Ya when I do this. I loosen the cable until the lever hits the bar. Then I break the lock nut on the clutch loose. Then I screw adjuster in until I see movement on the clutch lever. Then back adjuster off half turn and lock down clutch nut. Then adjust cable back to spec. Glad you are back on the road.

On my wife's sporty I can only get it right with the engine warmed up. Sounds crazy but, with a cold engine I can never get it. Warm it up and I get it first time, every time. My indie guy did mine last time and sometimes neutral is hard to find but, apparently not enough for me to do anything about it. I think it's just a shade loose on the adjustment and needs a slight turn in.
