So a couple years ago I had a brilliant idea. Because I was switching from solo seat to two up constantly, sissy bar on and off...my rear fender kept getting dinged.
My solution to the problem was to take it to my local body shop and have their guy put that 3M clear protection film on the rear fender. This way, I'd save my beautiful paint, right?
About a year in, it had boot marks on there, scuffs from the seat and all kinds of ugly marks. I tried to take the bot mark out and the plastic would get scratched and I was left with a big dull smear in the plastic which looked worse than the boot mark!
So today I called the body shop, tried to see if they could put a new one on. It was at that time that I learned that the 3M protective film does not like to be taken off and I should probably just leave what I had on the bike--on the bike! He gave me some idea of what it was going to be like to take off so when I did, he was right, it was a mess. Adhesive everywhere stuck to the paint and not interested in coming off at all.
It came off eventually but I'm here to tell you that I will not be putting a new film over the fender. It was a nightmare and I'm pissed that I did it in the first place. Learn from my mistake. Don't put 3M protective film on your beautiful motorcycle.
Happy Riding.
