Best Deka/Big Crank/East Penn battery
#12
I have a 1997 Dyna Low Rider. I am fairly new to all of this. I can go by what the dealer site says is the "right" battery for my bike. I'd rather ask here.
I know in my Xterra I am running a battery far larger then OEM Specs-so assume the same could be true of the scoot. Been busy fixing Xterra issues so the bike has been on back burner--but no more!
What would be the right size battery for my bike? My research tells me Deka is the best (they make the HD ones, Big Crank, East Penn too)
All help appreciated. Time I got this bad boy on the road.

There are many more NAPA's than HD dealers, and the price is much more reasonable.
I used this series to replace 2 batteries this past year, with no issues.

Don't know of any HD batteries that didn't make it 5-7 years in a stock engine application and held up 3 years in my 89" 10-1 engine stroker engine that loaded a battery in a hot start.
For the price and cranking amps, put this battery in with the 127"

Yes, I put the battery on a tender during the winter (during the riding season the bike never sits long enough to need it). Yes, the charging circuit is good. A friend of mine who rode an Evo Softail and now rides a TC says he had the same battery life in his Evo Softail.

In the past, I would get 2 years of service from a Harley-Davidson battery. The original 1993 battery lasted 4 years before going **** up. Up until 2006 I was riding on borrowed time if I went into the third season with a battery. Batteries were always pulled in the off season and kept charged. Most often the batteries would short out internally, giving little or no indication that they were about to die. Ultimately, I discovered the voltage regulator plug was making intermittent contact with the stator plug, I had the solution. A bit of work with an X-Acto knife, a couple of dental picks, and needle nose pliers solved the poor design/connection for good.
My last (Harley-Davidson) battery was installed June 2006, it was replaced September 2014 with a Big Crank battery from batterymart.com. Not because it had died, but rather it was getting sluggish (the dreaded 'click') after sitting for a couple of days, and at temps below 50 degrees.
So far the Big Crank has surpassed my expectations.

Maybe some applications differ, heard about the oil tanks cooking batteries. Got 3 years out of 2 HD bats turning a 100 hp engine with no compression releases. Witnessed 2 softail twiikies at 7 years in stock engines with factory batteries.
Maybe the Seafoam you guys are using is deioniziing the molecleor properties of battery tendacies, think about it

I've said it before and I'll say it again. In my dyna and newer bikes I run deka. My coursing used to work for them and he said its a top notch operation and quality control there. I am currently running a drag specialties battery in my softail that served it previous life in a rigid frame and it is just now dying at about the four year mark. I am impressed with this one
