Another timing question....

if you want to get it perfect there are 2 ways to do it with that ignition.
first way is you have to use a dial back timing light. set it to 34* ground the voes and use curve 1 and use the TDC mark for timing. after its timed set the curve back to 2 or 3.
second way use usb adapter hook it up to the ignition. tach wire and voes wire. open curvemaker program set the curve 1 map to max out at 35* save and reboot the ignition. now set ignition to curve 1 ground the voes and use a regular timing light and time it to the one dot mark 35* after its timed put it back on curve 2 or 3
if all your doing is static timing it will be off about 10*-15*. static timing is just to get you close so you can start the bike. you can run the bike there and it will run cooler and have less ping and it will start easier when hot. but fuel mileage and power will suffer.

Thanks D. I'm beginning to wonder if my problem is this light.. Mine took a dump on me last year, so I borrowed this one and I'm not really familliar with it.. It is a digital dial back Snap On. Right now, VOES grounded @ 1700 I've got double dots with it set to 35*.. My single dot is about 5* and the single line is before 0.. I'll try to get back out to it tonight, its still running very good though. Not as quick starting as my other bike, but runs great..

that's a good light. from what you said your off around 20* set it to 34* on curve 1
ground voes any rpm above 1400 thats when curve 1 will go max advance at 34* and use TDC mark the line. forget about the dots.
remember that all timing lights have an error of +/- 1* so its best to shoot for 33-34 degrees advanced not over that.

The right RPM would be about 1600. The box fan should be ok if set right up next to the engine and only run the engine about 5 minutes then shute off off engine to cool 10 min. is what I do.

. Cheap on eBay. I bought a digital for other reasons you just wrap it around the plug wire. I'd let you use mine but you could probably get it faster on eBay. This is the exact one I have it's dead accurate. You'll want to find it for sale in the states or it will take forever from Hong Kong. I bought mine from a us seller had it in 2 days.
