Default Shovelhead guy joining Evo guys

Evening,

I'm a shovelhead rider/builder by hobby but finally got my hands on an Evo to play with. Just a quick hello and mention of the issue it has. I'll get some pics and better info this week. My curiousity is just high to see if it's a common issue.

the bike is a 1990 that i nabbed dirt cheap and came with a lot of good parts. he described as he went to downshift the shift linkage fell about an inch and then it wouldn't shift above second gear. currently the bike isn't running, but manually shifting it, it's difficult to change gears above second. it's able to hit 1st, nuetral and 2nd.

i'm familiar with 4 speeds, but he mentioned a nuetral spring was broke and causing the issue. i've never heard of that, but i don't know much about the 5 speed.

does that sound like a common issue with these? i'm gonna pop the top and have a look to see how it looks inside. i need to get a sevice manual ordered and go from there.

thanks, i'll get some better pics as we go and probably start a build thread. i'm putting late model bags on it and continuing where he left off.

thanks
mike

Nice!
I have Evo's and would like a Shovel to play with.

#59 is the spring that's probably broke.

I had a shovel. You're gonna like that Evo. Once you get it sorted, you get to ride it instead of wrench on it all the time.

The tranny experts here will fix you up info wise, with pics even, right Spanners?

Thanks for the info. Definately seems to fit the problem. I have the manual for my 81 FLT, bet the trans is damn near identical. i'll see what's in there for part numbers and may be able to fix it while i wait for the new manual to come in.

thanks
mike
