Default 97 ultra fork lock ?

When I turn forks to the left, and turn the ignition switch to the left and lock it, it works fine except no fork lock.
Ignition is locked but not fork, anyone have any ideas on this?

I don't see any diagrams or info in the book or online, appreciate any help.

Turn it back slightly to the right and see if it locks, they are not always lined up correctly.

I haven't used a fork lock since the 70's....I can afford insurance these days ;-)

That lock is a strange affair. The one on my bike stopped working, but as an export model it has an additional fork lock in the side of the steering head, so I have removed the steering lock parts from the ignition lock. In my earlier book it is covered in section 2.40 (page 2-109).

Not living in the back of beyond I not only have insurance, but use my ignition and steering locks, plus an alarm/immobiliser and on occasions a rotor lock! Why make life for thieves easy?!

Try giving the bars a little extra tug to the left after setting switch in lock position.
Works on my FLHT

That was the easiest fix ever.
The extra tug to the left was the cure.

Hope you can fix all my future problems just as easily.

Thanks guys.

I had an Ultra Classic trike that I installed Tri Glide trees on for the rake (worked wonderfully). The lock hole in the frame flange did not exactly line-up with the plunger in the switch and no amount of bumping would work. All I had to do was "adjust" the bottom side of the hole with a rat-tail file. BUT....I have owned them that required that little extra bump to lock. That alignment can always be "adjusted" a bit if the bumping gets too common.

Shoot a little lube up in there as well, it may make the whole operation easier !!! Also have someone check your steering head bearings, if they are loose/worn it will make engaging the lock tricky !!

My '97 and '98 both have that same problem. A little extra push catches the lock.
