Default To tune or not to tune

Just put a pair of Cobra slip ons on my 2016 Iron and I am getting a little backfire pop on deceleration. Wondering if I have to buy a tuner or take it to the shop to be remaped

Tune it. Remapping doesn't do much. I would recommend a FP3. There are many other quality options but I like that one. Retails for $400 and probably cheaper online. Easy to use and smartphone compatible. Take it off after tuning or leave it on the bike and use the display on your phone. Should eliminate the pop, increase performance and throttle response.

GOOD LUCK finding a straight answer! I have searched for a solid month trying to get a straight advice on what to do when going to full after market exhaust. I have a brand new set of VH pipes setting at home waiting to go on my 2016 dyna and dont know if I need to spend 500 bucks on a tuner or not. So I have decided to throw them on then see if I need one or not. Some say yes you gotta have one if you change the pipes. Some say no. Some say you only gotta do it if you change the intake. Some say you gotta do it if your seat is black and you drive a moped. So who knows. Will see if my bike blows up because I added pipes to it before I can get a tuner on it then I didnt need it anyway!! HAAHA

Oh an whats even funnier is I went to my dealer a while back and asked 3 different techs. An got three different replys. One set remap. One said buy a tuner. An one said hell NO you dont need one for just an exhaust. I laughed and walked out. GOTTA LOVE THE EPA AND THE EFI

You can probably get by without a tuner like some have suggested but the factory sets them so lean from the factory that they run better after being properly tuned, with or without upgrades. I use a power vision and am happy. The pv will allow user programming and work with future upgrades like cams and increased ci where some others don't.

As mentioned, the bikes start out very lean and anything you do to increase flow will only make it worse. IMO the V&H FP3 at $339 is the way to go if you're only going to do a stage 1 mod. Quick and easy and makes a big difference in how well bike runs.

That is a very common problem and not all that bad when it is only on deceleration. I lived with it a few months on a previous bike and finally got tired of it. Added an air intake and tuner and made a work do diffference.

So +1 on tuner
