Default Decat into True Dual

Anyone ever decat a factory head pipe (window style) and add pipe in chamber to make a true dual? I have a spare pipe (currently running a decat too) and with the bike parked, I have more time than money and common sense so wondering if can be done and the results.

I was wondering the same, so I did add the pipe to direct more flow to the left side.
Can't say I noticed a performance gain, but at least more exhaust is going out the left side. It's difficult to add the pipe in there to get a complete connection. I think I'm going to take out the whole cat area and make it a true dual. Hoping to get it all to hide behind the shield. I've got an extra pipe too so the worst that can happen is I scrap the project and go back to just a decatted pipe.

Im going forward with this and will update as progresses. I have the pipe windowed and cat material removed. My plan is to extend the left side pipe from the front and the right side from the rear as this is where HD has visable pipe extended into collector/cat chamber vs. welded onto the collector. If I extended each side upto and past each other a couple inches, I can use this overlap/side by side area as the block off of the 2 sides, thus having 2 seperate chambers, 1 for each pipe. To make a good seal for the pipe extensions I will use 1 5/8" od (41mm) pipe to slip into the factory 1 3/4". It will be a tight fit at the overlap area so may have to do minimal fill with weld to seal. Pipe on order. Looks good on paper but may be a bust but always fun to play when its winter

Aborted project. Could not get a good isolation seal between the chamber sides.

You'd probably have 94% seal, be better than not at all. Got that far, should put it together and try it. Just a thought. Great thought though.

I did mine and it's not exactly perfect either. What you have will be better than not doing it all. Go for it!

Greg there have been a few riders that have used a "partition" down the center to isolate the o2 sensors to avoid crosstalk and to isolate more flow to the left pipe. The problem with running more flow through the left pipe is you are costing performance, counter productive. True duals, or a version of them is poor in performance compared to a 2 into 1 exhaust. The biggest plus of true duels is appearance, ground clearance and sound. The 2 round pipe mod you have done will help prevent crosstalk and will work better if they were longer.

Project was solely based on quest for the best sound...my current decat runs strong and I have no complaints on how it sounds so I will be staying with that as I couldnt justify to my better half the cost of a new header on the HOPE it would sound even better. Winter boredom sucks! Thanks all for the comments
