High Flow Intake

High Flow Intake
Searched but didn't find an answer. Would it be practical to simply substitute the crappy stock air filter with a high flow variety (i.e. K&N) rather than change out the whole intake (SE or Big Sucker)? Does the K&N not fit in the stock air box? What is the advantage of changing the whole intake over just the filter?

RE: High Flow Intake
I went with the Forcewinder......which uses a K&N filter. That, with my 2-1 Thunderheaders, and I bumped my HP at least 10 ponies. I believe you can put a K&N filter on a stock carb, it might be a new part that just came out. By changing the whole intake system, you'll be able to suck in more air, than with just a new filter. Of course you will have to rejet the carb as well.

There's a K&N replacement for the stock filter unit to be used in the stock air box, but it still will only flow a bit more air than the stock one because of the size and the restricted air box.. You would benefit more going with the stage 1 because of more area of the filter media and open construction of the mounting itself. They can support up to 100/100
