I have an 07 RK Classic, SE/AC, SE Slip-on mufflers and a PCIII usb. Ive been fighting the PCIII to get rid of the pinging. The bike stock does not ping. So I'm guessing the PCIII overides the stock ECU timing tables when installed? I took the damn thing off, reinstalled the stock air kit and whola, no more ping.Any input on this would be great.

The first thing I would do is familarize yourself with your PC.

hook it back up and ride it, note where your pinging is: Lo range, Mid range, WOT!

then use the PC to pull out 2 deg. of timming at a time in the range where you suspect the problem.
If this dose not work, add a little bit of fuel and try again.

Take your time, dont do too much change at once, and write down your changes and where you started from, so you can go back to square one if you need to!

 

I think I would try to add fuel before retarding the timing. Retarding the timing can make your engine run hotter. If adding fuel does not get rid of the pinging then start backing off timing. I am no expert by any means but this is what was suggested to me by the experts.

 

Im pretty sure that retarding makes an enigne run richer, and advancing timing leaner (hotter).

either way just make ONE change at a time, and record your findings, and remember where you started.

 

Did you go to Dyno Jet site and look for different maps? You can e-mail them and ask for advice they are very helpful and prompt.

 

first thing first, make sure you set the throttle position correctly before you do anything. that means low and high a full reset.

then remember values that are minus - retard the timing, + values advance timing. take a look at your map, people dont normally use + values more than +5. unless you have access to aair/fuel meter i would not adjust your dyno, or canned map value for fuel.
