Default Hippo Build Cam Advice Needed

All, this winter I'm going to do the Hippo Build

95 Jugs & flat top Pistons
Screamin' Eagle Pro Heads
SS 570 Gear Drive,
etc, etc.

I was wondering how the build would perform with Andrews cams (55) vs. SS 570. The cams look very similar. The biggest difference I can find is the lift being .550 vs. .570 (S&S). I know both of these cams perform well around 10:1 compression which this build would be.

Insight?

I would stick with the S&S cams or go to the Head Quarters .575 Firestorm cams for broader power range and more low end torque.

You are going to losesome end power with the 55 cams 46 degree intake closing as compared to the S&S 40 degree intakeclosing, at 10 to 1 compression you are borderline for comp releases with the S&S cams, you would likely be around 190lbs cranking pressure and could have some hot restart issues.

If you're planning on the Hippo route, then follow it!

I am a huge HQ fan, but I have to say that sticking with stuff that is known to work together makes more sense thanthrowingan unknown in to the mix.

I'm with Phil. If your doing the Hippo then don't deviate from the recepie or your results may not be what you expected. Now if it was me I'd spend the couple extra bucks and do a HQ build.

I would talk to Steve at GMR or Scott at Hillside Cycle and get a apackage that has been proven to work together but I am also a big Woods cam fan (tw6g) works real good at 10:1

The Hippo Build (Thanks Frank!) is the best move I made in my Stage III decision process. I only went with the SE forged pistons at the urging of the builder vs. fly-cut cast pistons. This is a great combination of parts for a touring bike!
