07 96in cams

RE: 07 96in cams
You can go gear drive on a 07 and up , some cams are only available that way.
With the new roller chain design , the fear of cam chain tensioner failure has been addressed , so there is less argument for going to gear drives.
I had them on my last bike , and other that the low whine they make found them quite acceptable. The Pre-TC HD's had gear driven cams , they went to chains because of the EPA

You can use chain drive cams up to the point where you have to go to better than stock valve springs. The higher lift springs generate so much tension or resistance against the cams it can overwelm the chain tensioner. The tensioner is maintained by engine oil pressure holding a little piston ( in a little bore) that has anylon shoe at the end up against the chain to keep the slack out as it goes around. It will then let the cam timing move around as the chain tension varies. Up to 4 degrees I have read. Gears remove all problems that way. I have to say I read all that just lately but as soon as I had read it, I knew that was exactly right.
