Default 88 vs 88b

Got into a discussion with a buddy of mine on our way to Daytona this past week. He rides aFat Boyand claims that the 88b motor makes about 6 less HP out of the box.

I told him that I have never heard of this before and he is just making excuses as to why my Road Kings walks away from him in the mid range.

What do you guys think/know?

He is correct tht it makes less power. The balancers rob some of the power.

Plus, Ive heard the counter balancers "blow-up" when hot rodded.

(this maybe a Myth, Ive never seen one up close)

That is apparently why you can not rev the B motor as high for fear that the balancers will slip.

the B motor counterbalancers are pretty durable and we don't see many reports of problems with them...they are a lot more durable than the Chinese cranks in the '07 and '08 bikes

No problems with mt 02 88B.. He is right though... The 88B makes about 5hp or so less than the 88A
