Default Fuel pump/gas tank noise?

I am having an issue where my bike (2001 Road King EFI) is having a hard time idling and staying running. I hear the sound of when you first turn the ignition to on (when it is building pressure) after the bike is running.Running throughout the day has gotten progressively worse. Now it does not want to stay running at all and I hear that pressurizing sound after it the engine is running. I do have the check engine light on at this point. I just changed the air intake temp. sensor due to the engine light going on and off prior to this issue. I pulled the code and got 15 which from other research was the temp sensor. After changing the sensor I still have that code. I may have been unable to clear the code (which I thought was done by disconnecting the battery) and could at this point have more than one issue. I only get that code. Does anyone know why I would be getting the sound in the tank after the bike is running? Any help would be very appreciated!!

Sounds like the fuel pick-up tube in the tank has either come loose or is sucking air above the fuel level in the tank. Or the fuel filter in the tank is plugged up. Either way you will need to open the tank and remove the filter assy and pick up tube to inspect them. HD recommends servicing these items at or about 20K miles or 2 years. Not too difficult a task if you're mechanically inclined and have a service manual.

The inlet filter in the tank looks to be clogged. The bigger issue is the paint or sealer in the tank is flaking off in approx. 1"x1" pieces. So I am going to have to find a way to reseal the inside of the tank so the junk does not continue to clog the filter. Thanks again for the help!! Hopefully it runs good after I get thru this mess.

How did you fix your flaking sealant chips in your tanks. I have the same problem and was wondering how you fixed it.
