By all means don't gutt the exhaust. You will loose torque at the bottom end of the range that is noticable. You can install slipons without remapping but fuel enrichment would always help on that bike as they are very lean to start with. A TFI will work well for you if you also add the intake and you can forget the remap by the dealer.
Here's some input on the TFI... https://www.hdforums.com/m_291301/tm.htm
Also take a cruise through this section too... https://www.hdforums.com/forumid_247...smode_1/tt.htm

RE: gutting exhaust
I'm not sure if there would be a difference between bikes or not, but when I changed JUST my exhaust with the SE Slipons I had ALOT of popping on deceleration and backfiring. So I personally would have to disagree with the just going slipons and being ok. If you wanna do it for about a month before getting the TFI or some type of programmer I would say your fine, but I wouldn't leave it that way for lone.
Just my experience with this situation.

So, the only thing I need to do is: 1) Put on new pipes.
2) Install TFI.
3) Adjust TFI
Then if I install the K&N later just readjust the TFI? What about remapping? Is the TFI the same as a remap? If this is all, I will just do it myself. Hell if it's that easy I'm mechanicaly inclined enough to do that. Is there different TFIs for different setups and different kinds of pipes? Thanks for all the help and patience.
