Default Cam chain tensioner replacement

Does anyone have an easy instruction setup for installing cam chain tensioners for a 05 wideglide? Dealer wants $815 to change to gear driven and $515 for changing just tensioners, I find that to much for my budget right now. Looking for easy to do cam tensioner install, saw the one on DIY forum and I don't want to cut anything just change and ride. Any help would be appreciated

Did mine with a wrench friend and it took about 3 hrs. Considering what all is involved like special toools ie. grenade pins and what might really give you some problems ie. exhaust bolts and the cost of new tensionors $515 really doesn't sound that bad.

The Service Manual for your bike has excellent instructions for the work.&nbsp\\; Best money you'll spend on your bike.

Does that $815 include gears and cams?? If so, you better jump all over that. If that's just labor, run.

Dealer here told me just today, 7-800 bux just to replace the shoes.

Bike is still under extended warranty. Shouldn't they be warranty replaced, if needed? Bike is in shop now, and I told em to take a look at em...bike has 62k on it...........

Tools, http://www.georges-garage.com/Engine_Tools.htm #320500 $24.95 plus shipping. 2 tensioners inner and outer like 60.00 each. Gasket, less then $10.00. exhaust seals if needed $10.00 Small I-let snap-ring pliers from Harbor Freight (since you will only need them once) $6.95 I would do the cam bearing while you are there if it has more than 50K but that is another $75 in tools and $40 in parts.

I did miss 2 tools (inner cam bearing puller and pump alignment pins) and if you know your way around a press the cam shaft remover and installer should not be needed. The entire install kit HD #17045-99C has all the parts you will need except the tensioners. I think it is like $67.00. The service manual shows using the wireform from a binder clip. It actually works. Replacing the push rods with HD #18404-08 will make the job a whole lot easier. Than you won't need to pull the rockers. If you are serious about doing this I would inspect the cams and lifter rollers and camplate where the pump gears ride closely. Good luck.

Default Fixxed

I finally got her fixed, wound up being inner and outer tensioner replaced and needed a new oil pump, adding a new front tire made total cost 1238.00. Runs and purrs again so happy but not wanting to shell out that kinda cash again anytime soon
