Default 103"/oil cooler

Having a 103 upgrade on my 2008 fatty like the thought of the Harley Oil cooler but is there any need ? Yes I know cooler oil is a good thing but dont want to fit it if the engine is fine without.
a, Does not look great,
b, Cost
c, Added weight although minimal.

Just like opinons from you guys that are running hopped up engines

Regards

I agree, you need a cooler on that bike. In my humble opinion. There is only 1, and that is a JAGG 10 row turbulated oil cooler. It fits on the frame down tube. The Harley one is ok, but it is only an 8 row . The JAGG cools the oil prior to reaching the oil filter, the HD after the filter. Therfore you have a much better flow resistence with the JAGG. Also the JAGG is black powder coated for better heat dissapation than a chrome cooler. Trust me on this one, go with the JAGG. You will get used to the way it looks. I will also add miles to your engine life.

I don't agree on the "need" of a cooler on a mild 103". Dealer sales ploy.
We too, use the Jagg, frame-leg mounted 10 row units, on builds that require.
They work very well.

Your engine, your $$$. But, I guess if you can afford the engine today, you can afford a rebuild when it burns up tomorrow...just sayin'.

HD parts are great but not always the best. Have a look at Jagg (by Setrab) oil coolers -- they have low mounts and side mounts which might suit your requirements.

See above.

Have yourself a nice crap before you ride and eat one less cheeseburger when you stop for lunch. ???

Thanks guys I sort of knew there would be a differing answers.
Any dealer based techs ? Do most fit or not?
Its about $400 fitted here cheap if it saves the engine but just not sure its required
I have had a couple of EVOs with hop ups and no cooler no prob .To be honest I will never do more than 20,000 miles over the next 5 years but we do ride hard when we tour Europe in the heat of Spain etc

Regards

Thanks

your tuning will also have a effect on heat, as well as head porting.

a ported head and a good tune will run cooler that the engine you have now.

I have yet to go over 210 on my oil temps in 4 years and I have a lighter bike, but the fact is, I dont real need one, so Im not going to run one.

high quailty oils have a small say hear too, Ive run Amsoil, and Mobile 1, RP and the bike always runs cool.

My SE Fat Boy comes with the 103" engine. I don't have an oil cooler and have no problems, down here in hot SW Florida. Most heat problems occur while the bike isn't moving or in very slow stop and go traffic. An oil cooler wont help in those conditions, unless you have an electric fan blowing air across it.
