I have an '05 Road King Classic w/EFI, and just had Rinehart True Duals installed and picked it up today. Had the pipes, mapping and air cleaner installed by my Harley dealer. I noticed whenever I either downshift or decelerate I get that rediculous popping sound. My question is, is this normal? My dealer mentioned a racing modilator or something to that affect for another 250.00 bucks. They test road it and said I didn't need it. What's the story??? I'll get it if it stops the popping. Thanks.

We had the race tuner installed on our Ultra with the Rineharts. A "Generic" MAP won't really TUNE the individual cylinders for the flow that the Rineharts provide. THe download is for a very specific setup--Many installer will pick one they think should be CLOSE.... Our install involved a couple of HOURS on the dyno to not only set up a custom MAP, but to ensure the proper mixture on EACH cylinder..... We get a SMALL amount of popping on a let off, but that's it. It's not the sound that I worry about as much as the correct mixture, and not burning or blueing the pipes due to poor mix (OR engine damage)

Some people love the poping noise. The spanish guys I ride with love to run straight fish tails with no crossover and they pop like mad on the down shift or decell. Just like the low riders cars with fish tails except twice as loud. One of my friends has a springer with every kind of bolt on you can imagine plus SWITCHES. He just bought some 36 inch fish tail extentions for his pipes. They will stick a out about a foot behind the rear fender. He loves his loud as hell popping sounds on his bike. I rode behind two guys with these kinds of pipes for about a half hour and when we stopped my ears were ringing like mad and everyone sounded like mickey mouse.

Sounds like I have a similar issue - Just bought an 05 Road King Custom and installed the SE II's and the Stage One kit and had the dealer re-map it. Sounds great - couldn't be happier with the sound .... BUT ... Seems like I have some serios backpressure issues. I'm ok with the normal rumble on the down shift, but more than 75% of the time when I downshift (from any gear), I get the loud popcorn pop someitme mutltiple pops.
I took it back to the dealer, and they re-mapped it again, thinking that it wasn't right either - but it is still doing it. Should I continue to press them for a custom map or a fix - or just live with it. I really just want to make sure I'm not running it too lean or to rich and case some damage (seems like my gas milage is worse and I really didnt notice any performance increase)
Thanks in advance.
