Do use forged pistons.
A bigger forged piston weighs closer to the cast stock piston. This will be better with the "B" engine which has the counterweights.

That is exactly the setup I had for about six years on my FLHR. I had the 1550 done at delivery since I knew what a dog the 50-state bike was from test driving. The 1550-setup bike had a lot of torque and power for 2-up cruising and no issues other than having to downshift on mountain updgrades. When the "other 1/2" of the mods were done in later, with gear driven cam and velocity porting, etc,. etc., the difference was more than I was anticipating, much more increase in wheel-pulling power than the original 1550 big-bore kit provided (compared to stock).

If it was me and all I was doing was BB and cams with no head work I'd go with the HQ 0034 or the SE204 vs the 203. I've owned a bike with the 95" and 203 cam build and my dad used to have a 06 Ultra with a 95" and 204 cam build. I liked the 204 cams better than the 203's, they just seemed to pull just as hard on the bottom and go higher than the 203.

I will say my dad did have Hillside do a good valve job and some cleanup on the ports then set the compression at 9.7 which made the bike even better. The guy who now owns the bike now always shakes his head and comments on how well the bike runs.

Going from 88 to 95 will definetly wake your bike up and come alive, i know i did it. It's a very good idea. And believe it or not, better fuel economy as the motor now doesnt have to work as hard. UNLESS OF COURSE YOUR ON IT ALL THE TIME LIKE ME!!!

I do agree that to get themost, headwork is where it is at, but a high lift cam is not a true necessity unless you are trying to wring the last hp outta the combination. There are many low to mediun lift cams out there that really do well - HQ 575 & 0034, Woods 6, Andrews 26, Zippers 575 and on and on. It is not neccessary to go beyond .600 lift IMO.
Dalton is correct and I'm out in space calling medium-lift cams "high lift". My bad!

Sounds very odd indeed.
