Default coughing?

My 97 Dyna has a cough, when accelerating, decelerating, doesn't matter. I put in 93 octane gas and that didn't change things. While riding I pulled choke out just a bit, maybe 1/4, the coughing stopped completely. Push choke in and it comes back. What should this be telling me? Obviously something with the carb.

Thanks, Joe

Lean causes cough thru the carb.
Rich causes cough out the pipe.

Your choke is adding fuel, so that kind of confirms the lean symptom.

Might want to go up a lil on your intermediate jet.

Edit: If this is only goin' on when the motor is not fully warmed, I would leave it alone.
A cold motor needs more fuel than a warmed motor.

Bump your pilot jet up 1 size at a time until it quits.
You will also need to adjust your air/idle as well, when doing this.

Thanks guys, one question, do I have to change both jets or can I only change pilot jet? Seems easy enough, might as well get both jets and see what happens.

I'd go with Hillsides recommendation. He's very knowledgeable.
Also, it seems that when you are troubleshooting, it is always better to only change ONE thing at a time - so as to better know which "change" actually cured the problem.

As Ed has mentioned, only 1 thing at a time.
