Default pilot jet

I am wondering how much the pilot jet comes into play at higher rpm's I have a 06 sporty XL1200C with a dealer installed Screamin' Eagle kit. I have a small miss at low to mid range. I put 2 new plugs in today with no change. I checked the jets...42 pilot 180 main what the xxll. Will the small pilot jet have a noticeable effect ? I am dealing with some vibration issues and believe all these issues come into play. Any words of wisdom? thanks

I would start by shimming the needle. Though it's hard to say since your post first says high rpm and then you say low to mid range. Which is it?

the question about the pilot jet came up because I was wondering how much it contributes actually if anything at higher rpm's. The problem is at the low end. It is very noticeable at idle and improves with increased rpm's. The color of the plugs looked great but I tried new ones. Can a larger pilot ject make that much difference? thanks

I agree. Go with the next size larger pilot and shim the needle or find a richer one. Have you tried adjusting your mixture screw? Try that before you do anything.

Default new jet

I picked up my new idle jet today. I went from the stock 42 to a 45. I really did not notice any difference at all. I adjusted the air mixture also. I can hold the throttle around 3,000 and hear a small miss. A nice steady sound with a tiny miss at random times. Anyone want to buy a sportster?

At that part-throttle opening, I'd consider a needle change.

Default jets

I rode in to work this morning and the temp was a little low. The bike ran terrible. It was popping back through the carb and felt weak. I guess I will go back to the 42 jet and see what happens.
