Default fouling plugs in 50 miles or less

need some info to get my bike to run for more than about 50 miles
its an 84 fxst running a kelhin accelerator jet pump carb and 1 3/4" drag pipes 40" long carb has been cleaned numerous times have tried 3 different size pilot jets (58,52, and 48) the problem was that it wouldent run right it would sputter and back fire when we finally got it to where it would idle and run right it it ran for about 50 miles shut the bike down it cooled down started it up runs like crap again pulled the plugs and they are covered in black sooty carbon that indicates it is running rich but the pipes are turning brown up at the cylinder which indicated a lean condition we also tried different plugs (Harley-Davidson, Autolite, and Bosh) I was thinking a hotter plug maybe but I was also thinking it might be in the ignition system it seems as well that when it starts backfiring and sputtering it i crack the throttle wide open it i stops
Thanks
Johnny

Low voltage will cause the ignition to miss fire and blacken the plugs. What have you checked on the electrics? What ignition and settings?
