Default noise left side of engine TC88 (pls help)

Recently I noticed a chirping like noise at cold start that goes away after the engine warms up. The noise sounds like something rotating that could use oiling. The engine has proper levels of primary, transmission and engine oil.

I have also noticed a second sound like a faint rattle or clicking noise that appears to coming from left-side of the engine around the primary chain or compensating sprocket. Its not a loud noise so its hard to detect even for local repair shop to identify without removing the outer priamry cover.

Does ANYONE have an idea what could be causing these strange noises? Thank you for your reply.

Default engine noise

I have not yet checked the primary chain tension, but will do asap. From what I understand, the 2004 TC88 models still have the manual tensioner, while 2005 and newer have automatic? I have a Clymer book manual and it says it can be done from behind the shifter plate, but looking at the photos in the manual it looks like I might have to take off the primary cover.

that is correct...but the chain might of worn completely through the tensioner itself....

Check the tightness of the compensating sproket nut while the cover is off.
