I'm rebuilding my friends 79 flh shovelhead. He wants a little more power but doesn't want to sacrifice reliability. Bike already has an S&S super E carb, other than that it's stock. I'm looking at putting a different cam in and possibly upping the compression a little bit. Anyone have any suggestions? stock cast pistons? weisco? keith black? what about cams? looking for a a good overall cam, nothing to crazy. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

We use Wiseco forged pistons in those, along with an S&S .514 cam.
Very tame, reliable, strong power that comes on early. 65-70 hp, and 75-80 ft/lbs.
Make sure you look at the lifter rollers, rocker arm tips, a good valve job/head re-surface, and lastly, check the front rod(void of oil, at the 5 o'clock position) for ANY up/down movement whatsoever.
