Default Cylinder Head Bolts. What tool or size socket do I use?

These bolts dont appear to be removed with standard sockets. Are they metric? Do they require a special tool. I just want to use the right tool for the right job.

If I remember correctly, you need a 12 point 1/2" socket.

yes its a 12 point 1/2 socket,we had a guy in the shop that wanted all motor bolts changed,he picked out the 12 point bolts, looked real cool.found out later he went to another shop to have them all removed,MFering me cause i installed "metric" screws and he didnt have tools to fit them,go figure!!
