Look at the profiles. The 525 and 555 are identical except for lift; you get .030" higher lift with the 555; TDC lift is the same. The 625 is nearly identical but still has the same TDC lift. I would be focusing more on the heads than higher lift cams. The 555, even the 525, with Stage 3 heads, should be a sweet setup with no valve train noise. 590 is close enough to 600 that, IMHO, valve train geometry is altered enough to make some noise.

SO djl...you sayin go to a stage III HEAD AND THE 525/555....TR seemed to like the stage II/w the 625/590/555...just want a cam that performs where I usually ride.My little 88" with the 0033 Hq cams doesn't do too bad but runs out of steam after 4000...seems to fall flat....looking for roll-on 60...80 speeds to pass loaded 2 up....yea I can downshift but trying to get arm pullin power from 2000 to 55200.

We are a Tman dealer. We use the 625 and 590. they are great. Listen to TR he knows his cams best. My 2 cents on heavy bikes we stick with 590 instead of the 625 the 590 pulls a little better down low than a 625.
Both both are great cams and work very well. And plus 1 on Dalton post.

TR does know his stuff....It's me that has limited knowledge .....just looking for roll-on power don't want engine racket good fuel mileage and when I HAVE THE LOWER END DONE CAN BUMP THE 97" TO A 106" AND NOT NEED TO REBUILD THE WHOLE THING.So Dragos what would you do with this?

I would never second guess T.R., and was not second guessing T.R.; just sharing my experiences with two of his cams. Have talked to T.R. many times and he worked through some issue with me last year on a cam problem that was not of my making. So, he not only knows Harley cams/heads, he is also a standup guy. I am just saying that of the three cams recommended, I, that's me not you, would be quite happy with the 555. I am currently running the 525 in a carbed all bore 107" in an '02 FLHT. I was running the 590 but found it noisy and called T.R. There were some manufacturing tolerance issues with a batch of 590s which T.R. discovered himself and while we were sorting it out, he sent me a set of 525s; he did not have any 555s at the time. Honestly, I can't tell much difference between the two and will always go with lower lift if it meets my needs. I may switch back to the 590s in the future but no rush the way the 525s are running. I don't think you can go wrong with any one of the three cams T.R. is suggesting; just saying that if it was me, I would go with the lower lift option; not suggesting you go that route, just what I would do.

As for the heads, if I was looking for a little more boost, I would look to gain it from the head work, not a higher lift cam. But that is contrary to what many on this forum would do, after all, bigger is always better, right!

I am just a guy with two Harleys' in the garage and bad case of "tinkeritus"; certainly not in the same league as some of the pro's on this forum. I have no agenda other than to share a laymans experience, thoughts and knowlege, much of what has been learned through trial and error for other forum members to consider, or not.

DJL;I appreciate what you are saying i am just wondering why such a high lift cam for a 97" motor.I was told by bob woods to use his tw7h6r cam which has 575 lift and appears to make power in the lower rpms.TR said the 625 starts at 2200/2500 and pulls through to 6000.I have read that woods cams are noisy but feel that with 625 lift it will be noisy also.Probably need to have more conversations before I pull the trigger on a particular cam.I am not after a dyno king I am after a motor that delivers the performance in the range I ride.TQ<TQ<TQ and still be reliable.Cams are like women everybody has what THEY like I guess.

The 590 is like it like the 662-1 cam but lower lift. The 590 builds more hp and tq across the board. The 590 comes real strong right 2600 tq and goes right across. not to change the subject but I have a set of 574 Feuling cams I sold to a buddys shop to put in a 110 inch with a blower I like the numbers Feuling is posting on the 574 cam also. And they claim no lifter noise and bolt right in a stock 96 inch motor.

The 590 I like for the heavy bikes. it pulls better than a 625. 625 from What I have seen it pulls more mid and top end. 625 Its a great cam if you plan on racing. MY 2 cents
