2000 fatboy - asked mechanic how to get more sound and HPs. here is his answer..
i have a 2000 fatboy, 88 vtwin, stage 1 SE exhaust. I emailed a trusted mechanic how to get better sound and performance. before i do an extensive / expensive enginge redo i want some outside opinions. anybody do these mods already? if so, what do u think?

The next step up from there would be to go with a hotter cam. Cams give you a bit of a deeper sound and a boost in HP and Torque. For your model we usually go with a Screaming Eagle 211 Cams. Lots of mid and high range power. We have a package price on them installed is $700. That includes parts (cams, adjustable pushrods, and gaskets) and 4 hours labor.
From there the next step would be the big bore. Taking your 88" 1450cc to 95" 1550cc. Boring your jugs to 1550, changing pistons and upgrading your heads to the Screaming Eagles. $1900 (if we do at same time as cams $2600) parts and 8 hours labor (12 with cams)"

We are outside the S/E box here.
A GREAT combo we offer is this.
Andrews 37 cams
Bore to 98"
Stage II Head Work
Big, broad power.
Take it to Doc's Performance Tuning, in Mineloa, Fla, once bolted back togather.

agreed, walk away from SE upgrades. More power to be had with piston Kits from Weisco, custom head work, and Woods or S&S cams, yes go to 95''or 98'', my WG in the pic has custom mill work, 95'' weisco 10.5:1 S&S cams. Bike has way more power than any SE 103-110 bike I have run near. A bud of mine has a 110 and 2 up I can walk away from him. And don't worry bout reliability, just spend time and make sure you have the right mechanic, mine has 30k hard miles and never a lick of and issue

SE 211 cams are designed for high compression, bigger bore engines. I would not install this camshaft into an 88" engine. Plus...doing cams without the headwork is going to get you a little power, but you will see big gains by doing the headwork. I would recommend SE211's, 95" jugs, 10.5:1 Forged Pistons and headwork of your choice. Depending on the heads you use, your mechanic should cc everything out to get a static compression for you. He can fine tune this combination with the gasket choices while bolting everything back together. If you don't want to spend that much, I would just install some SE204's for a nice lope and good midrange power. They are a great camshaft and don't require any headwork or upgraded valve springs!

I did the S/E 95" with the 10.25 to 1 cast pistons, 211 cams, PC3, had the heads and intake manifold ported along with 1.9" intake valves and high lift springs, .045 head gaskets, and kept the factory duels with S/E slip-ons. For the numbers it made 99 hp and 98 foot pounds of torque. The guy doing the dyno stopped at 5500 rpm, the hp was still heading up while the torque was heading south. I would like to had seen what 6200 would have done, but maybe next time.
Anyway, that's still some great power and it has a sound that will make heads turn. But I will say the the 211 cams are a mid-range cam and don't realy turn on till about 3k rpm. If I were to do it again I would go 98" with 10.5 to 1 wisco pistons, .030 head gaskets. But think I'd still use the 211 cam, again it has a KICK-AZZ sound and I think you would like it.
