HQ0034 Cams in a TC88
Does anyone have any experience they can share? I am looking to put a mild bolt in torque cam in my otherwise stock stage 1 road king. I'm finding mixed reviews on these cams. Some say they come on earlier and stay on later than the Andrews 26s. Others say they need a little more rpms before they start to shine. It also seems like almost everyone using them also has a big bore of some variety. I won't say that I wouldn't like to have some headwork and big jugs and whatnot, but realistically from a financial standpoint, it's just not in the cards. I guess the cams that fit my criteria would be the Andrews 21 or 26s or the HQ 0034. Remember stock heads (04) stock compression etc. Who has used them? Who can give me real world comparisons on a street ridden cruising heavy bike? I just want it to be strong and responsive in the rpm range where these bikes actually live. It's a bit overwhelming. Thanks for your input.

Had them in my '02 Heritage. For comparision my buddy had a '04 Heritage. They pulled harder down low and continued all thru the rpm's than his after the swap. No different noise from them other than exhaust note changed some. Pretty much had the same setup as his with air cleaner and mufflers but his was EFI. Thought they had a broader rpm range than some of the others that had cammed up bikes but no idea what they had. Thought they worked very well on my stocker at the time and it was a worthwhile upgrade and my buddy has them on the bench for his, have since moved it up to a HQ95st and very happy with it!!!

Can anyone give me an idea of where in the rpm range the power comes on with these cams? Looking for torque that comes on early but still pulls later as well. I ride 90% solo and while I do enjoy relaxed cruising on my road king I do enjoy getting to my cruising speed quickly at times. I want low end grunt with good midrange roll on. I don't want a cam that is going to make me feel obligated to ride more aggressively. It would be nice if there was a cam that could do it all.

I know this is an older thread, and I don't have any experience with the 0034's.
You state "I am looking to put a mild bolt in torque cam in my otherwise stock stage 1 road king."
Well, that is the configuration that I have, and I could not be happier than with the Andrews TW 21's. Fantastic torque cam for the stage 1 88". Pulls hard in all five gears and I am a big guy, and ride 2-up frequently. I took them through the Rockies this summer with great results on the climbs. Great cam for everyday riding (not racing) Just my $0.02.

The HQ0034s will pull good off idle all the way up, but really shine in the 2000 to 4000 range. The Andrews 21s pull just a tad harder right off idle but start to peter out earlier. Both good cams. The Andrews has been referred to as a "bus" cam due to low down power but not much up top.
I know many running the HQ 0034s and are fully satisfied in an otherwise stock engine. In my personal bike I an now running the HQ500s, which is the 07 and up version of the 0034 and I like it a lot for the way I ride.
