Default 120" Merch Engine

Have an opportunity to buy a softail with one of these in it. Are they dependable engines? Can Harley Wrenches work on them and are Harley Parts compatible with this Engine?

They were all in all a decent engine.
Some OEM parts do fit those, and yes a Harley mechanic can repair/work on those.

some years ago they use to be the chit; very expensive back then. I don't know what happened but all of a sudden they were gone.

If you use search here on HDF for 'merch engine' there are just 15 threads. Seems Merch went out of business before HDF was born. I seriously considered buying one of their 131" motors, when they were still around, but the cost was very high plus shipping etc to the UK knocked that plan on the head! They were said at the time to be bullet-proof!
