Default 95 Inch Big Bore Kit - New or Bored Out

Hey guys. Looking for some qualified opinions. I am preparing to put a 95 inch kit in my 2003 Road King. My first issue is this. I can have my 88 inch cylinders bored out for $100, or I can purchase brand new 95 inch cylinders for about $250, minus $50 that I can get by selling my cylinders on Ebay. Is there any disadvantage to using bored out cylinders and saving $100?

My second issue is that my Bike has EFI, the HD stage one download, Rineharts, and a DFO (digital fuel optimizer, also known as TFI). I just finished helping a friend install a couple of these kits on his carburated bikes. They both ran fine without being rejeted. Does anyone know if I will need to make any expensive alterations to my EFI system in order for a big bore kit to run properly?

One more concern. Am i going to be wishing that I put a new set of cams in this bitch, and if so, what do you suggest? I am hoping to accomplish a mid to high range torque boost, somewhere in the 3500 - 5000 rpm range.

Thanks for your comments.

Bore out your current cylinders. They are what is termed "Seasoned", and are much better than brand new cylinders. Make sure that "Torque Plates" are used ot properely tension the cylinders prior to boring.

It is hard to belive that no re-jetting was needed after going to 95 C.I., unless the carbs were already re-jetted from factory settings prior to the 95 install. Same with EFI.

For a Road King my picks ae a Andrews 26, or a SE 204.

Bore out your jugs, just MAKE SURE that they are TRUE, when they are in the plates (6 axis' measurements), and that you have the jugs MATCHED to the slugs.....

The DFO might be able to handle the increased displacement. but not adviseable, as these systems are designed for no internal mods, and also rely on a BASE map (ECM flash), to modify the dwell of the injectors......

Mid range cams, look at the Andrews TW55G..... Gear driven..... kick in at about 2600.....

I agree with Buttman, but would like to add that the cams he lists are good for low and midrange torque. They will improve torque everywhere but are not top-end cams. I'm wondering why you want power in the upper rpm area. Do you race your 'King a lot? It's likely you'll be a lot happier with the Andrews TW26.

A DFO will work just fine for internal mods such as cams, 95" or both. People have been using DFO units with big bore kits since the TC came out and getting impressive numbers. The instructions that come with the unit will give you baseline settings for a big bore kit or you can go the Dobecks forum to get more precise baseline settings.

Old thread, I know. But, the 37G will suit the range you are talikng about. But, IMHO, as others have said, the 26G is better suited for a bagger. It's useable range is low/mid. It starts to fall off after 4k. The 37 needs a CR boost (9.7), the 26 will work with stock CR. Use a .030 Cometic head gasket.
Have your jugs bored to match the pistons you choose. SE Flattops will be ideal.
